Burberry have tended to be quite a success in their embracing of everything tech, digital and social, and they recently smashed through the landmark of 1 million followers on Twitter – a accomplishment befitting their commitment.
So to show their gratitude and to celebrate the occasion (which is becoming the convention for such milestones) they set about their #thanksamillion campaign. With a little boost from a “promoted tweet” [view], each of the first 3,000 who tweeted the hashtag received a personal thank you card; an animated GIF picture set in a (typically) rainy British background. We noted the GIF revival trend ‘Netstalgia’ back in issue 0020, and indeed GIFs have also been celebrating this week – the animated format has been in use for 25 years!
Burberry have every reason to be delighted. As sharp as ever.
