Fast Company Releases its top 50

In a week where we were grimly warned of a ‘tech crisis’ in global economies, we also saw FastCompany magazine release their annual list of the World’s Top 50 Most Innovative Companies.

From burgeoning start-ups breaking new ground through to multinational conglomerates with household names, they’ve curated a list of businesses changing the way we do business. The list is a must-see, but our picks of the ones you musn’t miss start with the winner of the top spot: Nike. The story of how they’ve built innovation into the fabric of their organisation and extended themselves from a mere sports apparel brand into a leading tech firm is compelling, to say the least. Google (ranking at no.11) also particularly impressed, as they revitalise local communities in Kansas by testing the world’s fastest broadband (see below), and AirBnb (at no.12) get a special mention, for turning the travel world on its head through the power of the crowd. Conspicuous by their absence anywhere on the list is Facebook.
